Over 60’s Match Results

18th December 2024 home Fur & Feather Pebmarsh Lake

This festive match got off to a great start with bacon rolls kindly supplied courtesy of Barry Wells, with donations received going to Cancer research.

Pebmarsh fished unusually poorly given the clement weather, with the lake split into 3 sections (Right bank left bank and dam wall) fish were hard to find for most.

Left bank winner Barry Wells (3) 11lb 8oz

Right bank winner Ron (the bagger) Brewer (25) 58lb 12 oz

Dam wall winner Ray Ackers (17) 11 8oz

Following the match prizes were a plenty with everyone leaving with something

04th December 2024 home match Bures (Rookery) Trimaster 2nd leg

The weather stayed fine for those anglers fishing the 2nd leg of the competition with Bill Trundle the runaway winner with a whopping 18lb 8oz. Bill caught a mixed bag including a bream and several specimen perch to 2lb 8oz to secure top spot.
Steve Bishop followed up his win in the first leg with a second place 8lb 8oz giving him the overall lead in the competition at the halfway stage.

20th November 2024 home match Bures (Essex Bank) Trimaster 1st leg

7 anglers braved the conditions, for the 1st leg of the trimaster at Bures on the Essex Bank of the Stour. Unfortunately there were 6 dry nets and the only angler bothering the scales was match organiser Steve Bishop, with 12 small fish for 4oz

06th November 2024 away match at Fennes Hobbs Croft

A really poor turnout saw Ron (the bagger) Brewer run away with the spoils. Fishing peg 17 he brought 28lb to the scales. In second place was Barry Wells from peg 19 with 18lb followed closely by Steve Bishop with 16lb 4 oz from peg 18.

30th October 2024 away match at Little Walden

CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF SUPPORT

16th October 2024 home match at Pebmarsh (silvers only)

For our first SILVERS ONLY match at Pebmarsh the lake was split into 3 sections to make it fair all round. (Left bank, right bank and dam wall.

Left bank winner was Barry Wells (11) returning 17lb

Right bank winner was Peter Pound (24) with 14lb 4oz

Dam wall winner was Danny Rampley (17) with 16lb

02nd October 2024 away match at Foxearth Fishery.

Following a change in temperature the fish did not show with the usual voracity expected from Foxearth fish.
Overall winner, John Sutton managed 5 carp from the small lake, for 42lb to take the spoils.
Barry Wells followed with 36 lb 8oz from the big lake.
Big lake section winner was Barry Barnbrook with 23lb 8oz.
Small lake section winner was Tim Cant with 30lb.
Our next match is on home ground at Pebmarsh and we will be trialing a Silvers only match.

18th September 2024 away match at Little Walden, small lake.

Lack of numbers saw us fishing the little lake, which fished poorly due to the influx of cold water.


Danial Rampley finished the overall winner with 88lb of carp.
In second place was Kevin Dewsnip who managed 58lb 8oz.
Tim Cant finished 3rd with 26lb


Next match is at Foxearth Fisheries which will need an improvement in numbers fishing to avoid having to remove this venue from the match calendar moving forward.

04th September 2024 away match at Fennes-Hobbs Croft


Following on from his success at Foxearth, Ron “the bagger” Brewer secures back to back wins at Fennes. His 74lb bag, from Peg 19, including a whopping 20lb 4oz carp was enough to see off closest rival Barry Wells, his tally of 71lb 4oz included a 15lb 8oz Carp and an impressive 27lb 12oz of silvers, which also earned him the silvers pot.Pictures show Ron and Barry with their largest carp.

21st August 2024 away match at Foxearth Fishery

Clement conditions greeted all those that attended our away match at Foxearth.


The winner with quite a margin was Ron “the bagger” Brewer, (pictured left) who drew peg 6 on the small lake and had fish steadily throughout the match bringing 93lb 4oz to the scales.
Closest contender was Dave Partridge fishing the pipe nearest the specimen lake, on the large lake with 68lb 12oz.


Section winner for the small lake was John Sutton with 51lb 4oz.
Section honours for the big lake were split between Mick Murton and Peter Pound with 52lb 04oz.

07th August 2024 home match at Pebmarsh

Following the decision to leave out pegs 2 and 25 for the match saw Barry Barnbrook lead the way home from peg 24 with 43 lb of Carp and 10lb silvers. His combined weight of 53lb saw off close rival and bosom buddy Ron “Nuddy” Brewer who managed 46lb 4oz, no doubt aided by his bright white hat!!
Bill Trundle finished 3rd from peg 3 with 40lb 12oz and picked up a Section win.
Peter Pound picked up the remaining section from peg 17 with 38lb 8oz.
Barry also picked up the silvers pot with his 10lb

24th July 2024 away match at Wilf’s Cable Pond, Clare

Those anglers making the away trip to Wilf’s Cable Pond on Wednesday were met with clement weather and picturesque surroundings. A truly well kept venue.


Fishing a Silvers only match left all those anglers pestered by carp very frustrated.
Match winner, Barry Barnbrook, pictured managed to put 23lb on the scales somewhat trouncing all others.
Runner up, Steve Bishop led the rest of the field with 15lb 12oz.

10th July 2024 away match at Rayne Lodge, Braintree


Extending the participants to include all members of the club attracted 1 under 60 at the first attempt.


This away match took us on our first match at Rayne Lodge, Braintree. Our change from the listed venue did not disappoint and John Sutton finished as overall winner with 39lb from venue peg 3.
Finishing in second place was Malcolm Jeffery from peg 12, with 27lb 8oz.


The consensus was, this is a venue we will use again. Thanks to all who helped with the weigh in.

26th June 2024 away match at Home Farm Fishery, Lt. Walden

Scorching hot conditions (well 29 degrees) greeted the 8 anglers that made the trip to the big lake.

Finishing in first place was Danny Rampley with 91lb 4oz.

in second place was Ron Brewer with 74lb 12 oz.

12th June 2024 away match at Foxearth

Despite the fine weather, disappointing weights were experienced at this usually prolific venue.

Top rod on the day was John Sutton, returning 58lb 12oz on the small lake.
Taking second spot was Kevin Dewsnip, putting in a welcome appearance in the over 60’s section, with 51lb 8oz from the large lake.
Bill Trundle won the silvers pot with a very impressive 26lb 8oz of silvers in his bag of 45lb 8oz finishing in 3rd place and picking up the section win on the big lake.
The small lake section winner was Barry Barnbrook with 32lb 12oz.

29th May 2024 home match at Pebmarsh


Wednesday saw the over 60’s, fishing at home at Pebmarsh. The weather held although the fishing was somewhat disappointing.
Barry Wells led the way home, just!
Fishing peg 3 Barry had a mixed bag of bream (19lb) and carp (25lb) to finish with 44lb. This also won the silvers prize.
This relegated Mick Smith fishing peg 2 to second place with 42lb8oz.
Newly recovered Ron Brewer made up the places with 41lb from peg 7.
Great to see Ron back.

15th May 2024 away match at Fennes Fishery Hobbs Croft


Near perfect weather conditions greeted the over 60’s at Fennes Fisheries on Wednesday 15th May, unfortunately the fish didn’t.
Barry Wells made it 2 out of 2 at this venue, with a win by the narrowest of margins over Tim Cant.
Barry finished with 23lb 4oz of mainly bream with a single F1, Tim followed with 23lb of bream to finish second and also picked up the silvers pot.

01st May 2024 away match at Home Farm, Little Walden

Summery conditions met the seven anglers who fished this very comfortable match.
Able to park behind your swim, warm weather and no rain saw Malcolm Jeffery minus his thermals (pictured left) take the honours with 53lb beating Barry Barnbrook into second place, his weight of 48lb 8oz included a couple of monsters (1 pictured below).

A good day was had by all.

17th April 2024 away match at Foxearth Fisheries

The sudden reduction in temperature contributed to the unusually poor results at Foxearth for the over 60’s at Foxearth Fishery on Wednesday. 

Fishing as 2 sections, small lake & big lake saw the honours split on the small lake between Mick Smith and Nick Pluck, both with 17lb 4oz.


Tim Cant ran away with the big lake, taking 46lb 4oz.
Bill Trundle picked up the silvers pot with 6lb.

Well done to all who braved the chaotic weather changes.

03rd April 2024 away match at Fennes Fisheries Hobbs Croft

Barry Wells led the way home on this day of unsettled weather. With the Carp failing to show Barry returned a mixed bag of F1s and silvers weighing 29lb 12oz from peg 9.
Mick Murton followed in second place with 20lb of silvers and picked up the Silvers Pool as well from Peg 14.

Section one was won by Barry Barnbrook with 12lb. On Peg 12
Section two was won by Bill Trundle with 14lb from Peg 18

The only carp of the match was caught by Mick Smith at 9lb on Peg 20 and he wins the bragging rights.

20th March 2024 home match at Pebmarsh

Despite a glorious day weather wise Pebmarsh unfortunately did not respond with the weights expected in the warmer weather.
Winner on the day was Tim Cant from Peg 17 with 43lb 4oz.
Malcolm Jeffery followed, fishing his normal peg 25 !!! and returning 32lb 12oz.


Leading the way home for the silvers pool was the Silver Fox himself, Mick Murton with an impressive 9lb.


Well done to all who fished, and remember to bring your membership card to the next match for checking.

06th March 2024 Away Match at Home Farm Fishery Little Walden

Dry and clement weather greeted all who attended the first Over 60’s match of the new match calendar. Fishing the small lake due to the extremely muddy conditions around the big lake, saw Malcolm Jeffery (pictured) take the honours with a very respectable 81lb 4oz. Right behind him at the opposite end of the lake was Rick McCarthy with 80lb dead, regretting taking time off for a coffee break.

First winner of our newly introduced Silvers pool with 3lb was Danny Rampley, whose overall bag of 35lb 4oz secured 3rd spot

21st February 2024 Over 60’s Matchman of the Year Ron Brewer

21st February 2024

Each year we run a competition to determine the overall matchman of the year.
Points are awarded for each match with the points from the lowest five matches deducted. Winner this year was Ron Brewer with a very credible 295 points.


Coming in second was Steve Bishop with 273 points.

Persistent rain and a biting wind did its best to spoil everyone’s day at Foxearth, however given the conditions surprisingly good sport was had.
Tim Cant provided the best weight of the day with 89lb 4oz, with Rick McCarthy in second place with 64lb.
In third place picking up a section win was Ron Brewer with 60lb 8oz with Peter Pound securing the remaining section with 33lb 8oz


This match concluded our 2023-2024 match calendar and we all look forward to the start of the new one at Home Farm, Little Walden in 2 weeks time.

The last minute switch to the Essex Bank of the Stour in Bures appeared to be a success.   With all 8 anglers weighing in, it did make more of a competition, than the previous Rookery lotteries!  
Match winner on the day was Mick Murton with 6lb 12oz, closely followed by Nick Pluck with 6lb 8oz. John Sutton finishing 3rd with 5lb 4oz.  

The Stour Valley Tackle sponsored Rookery Tri-Master Cup was won by Mick Murton with 9 points followed by James Portway on 13 points .
The weather stayed fine and a good day was had by all.
